Foodie temptation

Today's a quiet day for me until 2:00 pm, so I decided to take a closer look at Grandma Lola's recipes and see how hard it would be to make it into a spiral-bound cookbook.  Jason's cousin Brittany put in a LOT of time typing out all the recipes, so all I'm doing is copying and pasting.  I had to grin at Grandma Lola's huge stash of desserts, outnumbering all of the appetizers, breads, sauces, vegetables, sides, salads, and main dishes combined.  Here's a picture to give you an idea and make your mouth start watering:

A special lady will be missed

On March 16th, Jason and I came home from a date night and there were two messages--"Call Grandma Deb" and "Call Aunt Heather."  We were very worried it might be some news about our nephew Tyler who'd been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes that week and had been in the hospital.

The news was not what we expected--Jason's Grandma Lola had passed away suddenly and quickly.  We all stood in the kitchen quietly, thinking about her.  We were grateful Tyler was okay and also felt comforted to know that Grandma was reunited with Grandpa Ed, free from all the health problems she'd dealt with for so long and not lonely for Grandpa anymore.  The gospel is such a blessing--death is not the end!

We were already feeling the loss, but grateful that we'd be able to attend her funeral and be with family during the next week--the very next day we were leaving for Utah.

We have fun memories of holidays in Ivins, huge Christmas parties and white elephant exchanges at Grandpa and Grandma's house, and her toy closet!  I loved all her holiday decorations and smile when I think about all the times she asked me if we'd picked out dolls from Grandma's collection "yet."

Most of all, we will miss her generous spirit, her dry wit and fun sense of humor, her interest in us, and her love for us.  We love you, Grandma Lola!

I found these fun pictures of Grandma during a couple of our visits and had to share:

October 2011--what a gem!  Look at that smile!  I must have been doing something goofy because it's rare to get a crinkly smile like that out of her! :)
