Family Camping Trip to Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is just a quick 30-minute drive down the road from us.  We'd never camped there before and decided to try it out.  The views and weather were perfect.  Since we were there on a Monday night-Tuesday morning, we practically had the place to ourselves, too.  There wasn't a perfect flat spot for the tent, but we made it work.   We were close to a bathroom and running water, too.

Menu included:

Dinner--hot dogs, hamburgers, Pringles, carrots, grapes
Dessert--roasted Starburst candies and marshmallows (for s'mores)
Breakfast--pancakes, sausages, oranges  (we skipped the hot cocoa because it wasn't cold outside!)

We played a few rounds of the Great Dalmuti card game that night in the tent and went to bed.  There wasn't a lot of sleeping with the dogs sharing our tent, but all things considered, the dogs did okay, too, haha!  In the morning we ate breakfast, packed up, and went for a little hike in the area.  It was a blast!

We had a great time and enjoyed each other's company.  It was great to relax together and get away for a night!

A little Christmas miracle

This month we got lots of rain, at least, a lot for living in the desert.  I think it rained hard for 3 days and then there were a few days in between where we'd get light sprinkling.  Living in a desert in a drought-stricken state, well, it was a really nice change of pace and an answer to prayer!

One day I was waiting for Rhiannon and Wade to finish with piano lessons, and I looked up at a breath-taking sunset.  The pictures don't quite capture how beautiful it was!

Now that's what I call a sunset

Last week Rhiannon and I raced out the front door to capture one of our valley's spectacular sunsets.  They never cease to blow me away with their beauty.  You have to be quick, though, because they don't last long!

Rhiannon took this one with her iPhone!  WOW!

Maybe a minute after her I took a panoramic shot with my phone.  Amazing how the colors went from reds and oranges to purples and pinks.  Stunning!

I've been feeling a little homesick for Texas lately, so these sunsets sure helped to remind me that I've got it good here in the middle of nowhere, too. :)
